International Day of the Girl is a day to recognize girls' rights and the unique challenges they face.

Interest: Did you know that over 130 million girls are not in school today? That’s almost 1 out of every 3 girls around the world. And when girls aren’t in school, it can have devastating consequences for their future. It limits their opportunities, puts them at risk for child marriage and human trafficking, and keeps them from achieving their full potential as adults. But there is hope! We believe that investing in education is one of the best ways we can help empower young women to reach their full potential – both now and later on in life.

Changes for Plan Year 2022: Expiration of Unemployment Compensation Benefits

Messages for consumers

It’s important that consumers who are receiving the ARP UC benefits in 2021 understand those one-time extra savings aren’t available in 2022  and their financial assistance may be changing. Impacted consumers will see special language in their Marketplace Open Enrollment Notice and new content is being added to HealthCare.gov to explain the change. Consumers who don’t return to HealthCare.gov to update their Marketplace application during Open Enrollment and are automatically re-enrolled into PY 2022 coverage will also receive notices with special language that the ARP UC benefits aren’t available for 2022.

Consumers should update their Marketplace application, shop for 2022 coverage, and submit any required documents to make sure they’re getting the right coverage and savings.

National Women's Health Week in Action - May 9-15, 2021

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is continuing promoting Weeks of Action! Each week will focus on engaging a targeted population to encourage action to come to HealthCare.gov during the Special Enrollment Period and enroll in coverage or potentially take advantage of more cost savings.

The week of May 9-15 is National Women’s Health Week and CMS is recognizing the effort by focusing on our Women’s Health Week of Action running from May 9-15. We encourage you to help spread the word with your partners and members about helping women enroll in health insurance through HealthCare.gov. Weeks of Action focused on other populations will continue to August 15, 2021, when the SEP ends.

We have several resources for promotion this week on our partner toolkit including social media, fact sheets, graphics, etc.

We recently posted our new Week of Action Communications Toolkit which includes talking points, messaging, and a drop in article that can be customized for your organization.

There are also two Twitter chats scheduled this week with our federal partners for your participation:

With the world beginning to open back up since the COVID-19 Pandemic, I think it's still important to recognize other health topics of concern.  Breast Cancer Awareness comes to mind since this is the time of year that I have begun Spring Cleaning and getting back out in the yard.  

While we women are cleaning out our closets and getting our children back into their activities, let's be sure to keep an eye on our health and happiness (mentally and physically).

Marketplace 2021 Special Enrollment Period

Today, in accordance with the Executive Order signed by President Biden, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is announcing that the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for the Health Insurance Marketplace® will officially be available to consumers in the 36 states that use the HealthCare.gov platform on Monday, February 15, and will continue through Saturday, May 15. At least 13 States plus the District of Columbia, which operate their own Marketplace platforms, have decided to offer a similar opportunity.

"President Biden was clear: we need to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and give more Americans access to health care, especially during this pandemic, which has further demonstrated the importance of having the right coverage. This Special Enrollment Period will give Americans who need affordable, quality health insurance an opportunity to get covered, and we encourage folks to head to HealthCare.gov starting on Monday to explore their options," said HHS Acting Secretary Norris Cochran.

ANTHEM RE-ENTERS THE WISCONSIN MARKETPLACE

Anthem partners with Ascension to offer Individual health plans in Wisconsin
Anthem Individual health care plans will be available to Wisconsin consumers this fall for the 2021 plan year. Anthem has partnered with Ascension Wisconsin as its core health care provider for plans in six southeastern Wisconsin counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Ozaukee, and Washington.

The Anthem plans will feature Ascension’s integrated care delivery network of 22 hospitals; more than 110 care locations; and 1,000 physicians, including 470 primary care doctors and 430 specialists. The plans will also include Children’s Wisconsin for pediatric care.

Ascension, one of the leading non-profit health systems in the U.S., shares Anthem’s commitment to Wisconsin’s communities and its goal to build a better health care system that improves quality, lowers cost, and provides a better patient experience.

Pricing and plan details for the ACA-compliant plans will be available in a few weeks when the pre-enrollment shopping period begins on October 1, 2020. Open Enrollment for the health exchange at healthcare.gov begins November 1, 2020, and ends December 15, 2020.

SPECIAL ELECTION PERIOD - COVID-19 NATURAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION

​The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provides for a Special Election Period (SEP) for beneficiaries impacted by a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency or Major Disaster Declaration.

This SEP is for Medicare beneficiaries who were prevented from submitting a Medicare Advantage (MA/MAPD) or Prescription Drug (PDP) plan enrollment request during another valid election period due to the COVID-19 State of Emergency (declared on March 13, 2020). This includes both enrollment and disenrollment elections. This SEP applies to beneficiaries who reside in all U.S. states and includes all Anthem brands and affiliates.

In addition, the SEP is available to those individuals who rely on help from friends or family members when making healthcare decisions and those individuals were impacted by the State of Emergency. The SEP is available from the start of the incident period and continues for four full calendar months thereafter, beginning January 20, 2020, and ending May 31, 2020.

Enrollments are effective the first of the month after the plan receives the enrollment request. Only those beneficiaries who did not make an election during another eligible enrollment period are eligible for this SEP. An individual can use this SEP one time for each election period they missed.

For example, if an existing MA/MAPD member intended to, but did not make a plan election during their Open Enrollment Period (OEP) due to the state of emergency, they would be eligible to use this SEP one time between April 1 and May 31, 2020.

If the beneficiary knows what plan they want to select, they can call the plan or their broker/agent directly to enroll.
